We are blessed to be able to announce the new Your Home Team Cares WordPress website is now live! This joyful occasion was, unfortunately, born out of a situation that happens to often. We’ll get to that in a little bit, because we want to talk about the wonderful things Your Home Team Cares is doing.

Your Home Team Cares was created because a group of local professionals in the Denton County, Texas area saw a need and acted upon it. They noticed that there is a lot of red tape for people in Denton County to get financial assistance and wanted to create a better way of helping their community. When someone applies for assistance, they are able to respond to their need within 24-48 hours!

Now, I need to mention how this all came about because it could happen to anyone.

The person who originally created their website is not a professional website developer, but had some experience in designing websites. Plus, his mom worked for one of the founding members. Since his pricing was lower and the Your Home Team Cares (YHTC) budget wasn’t very large, they decided to go with him. He created the site on the YHTC GoDaddy account and set a few other things up for them, and they paid him in full.

It’s typical for people in my industry to offer monthly maintenance plans, and they were paying him to manage the site. After some time, he stopped replying to them in a timely manner because his actual job, which wasn’t in the website industry, required even more of his time. That’s when they reached out to me for help.

After they decided to hire me, they let their website manager know of the change. This didn’t sit well with him and because he isn’t a professional website designer, he thought that he owned the website and all of it’s files. He then took over their GoDaddy account, shut down their website, purchased domain names similar to theirs and demanded they pay him $5,000 to get everything back.

Because of the relationship and trust we had already built, they reached out to me and I told them not to pay him.

Thankfully we were able to get a domain name close enough that it still follows with their organization name and we created their new website.

So, remember that when deciding on who to hire to create and manage your website, don’t just go with the least expensive. Do your homework and ask the person questions about their experience and whether they do this full-time, or just as a hobby. Be sure to reach out to several people and get quotes from them, and make sure they are an apples-to-apples comparison.
